An In-Home Newborn Session - Baby Harrison
There’s something so special about in-home newborn sessions - the slower pace, the familiar spaces, the little details that already feel like home to your family. Baby Harrison’s session was exactly that in the sweetest way.
From the soft white and green tones throughout the nursery to the proudest big brother, Harvey, and their beautiful pup happily joining in on the snuggles. This session felt calm, cozy, and full of love from the very beginning.
One of my favorite things about photographing newborns at home is how personal every gallery becomes. The nursery they thoughtfully designed, the chair where countless late-night feeds will happen, the tiny details that feel ordinary now but will someday hold so much meanin. Those are the things that make these sessions so timeless.
And honestly? Sessions like this are the perfect reminder that newborn photos do not need to feel stressful or overly posed to be beautiful.
Tips for a Relaxed In-Home Newborn Session
Choose outfits that feel like you
One thing this sweet family did so well was choosing outfits that fit both their style and the aesthetic of their home. The soft whites and neutrals blended beautifully with the airy nursery, which makes these images feel especially timeless — and means they’ll look incredible printed throughout their home for years to come. But more than anything? Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. Especially postpartum, comfort matters.
Hair & makeup can make such a difference
You absolutely do not need professional hair and makeup for newborn photos, but if it’s something available to you, it can be such a wonderful way to feel refreshed and cared for during those early weeks. Even a little extra confidence can help you relax and fully enjoy the experience.
Feed baby right before the session
A full baby is usually a sleepy, content baby. Feeding right before we begin can help create a smoother, more relaxed session overall.
And yes, absolutely have extra outfits, burp cloths and swaddles nearby. Spit up, diaper accidents and snack breaks are all completely normal during newborn sessions. Truly, I am so used to it as a mom of two myself!
If baby is fussy… don’t panic
This is probably the biggest thing I want parents to know. Newborn sessions are never expected to go perfectly. Babies need breaks. Sometimes they need extra snuggles, extra feeding time, a pacifier or simply a few minutes to settle. We follow baby’s lead and create space for everyone to breathe. Some of the sweetest moments happen in those in-between pauses anyway.
Soaking Up This Season
The newborn stage passes in such a blur. The sleepy stretches, the tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the way your toddler suddenly looks so much bigger standing beside their new baby sibling… it changes so quickly. That’s why I always want these sessions to feel less about perfection and more about preserving what this season actually felt like.
The snuggles.
The calm.
The chaos.
The love.
Baby Harrison is already so adored and documenting this sweet season for their family was such an honor 🤍
